The strawberry, or Fragaria ananassa, originated in Europe in the 18th century and is a hybrid of two wild strawberry species from North America and Chile, according to Healthline.
Often the favourite of kids due to their bright red and juicy outlook, strawberries are a great source of vitamin C, manganese, folate (vitamin B9), potassium, antioxidants and plant compounds.
Usually eaten raw, strawberries are good for heart health, blood sugar regulation, cancer prevention, reducing cholesterol, blood pressure, inflammation and oxidative stress.
Bananas are respectable sources of vitamin B6, C, dietary fibre, manganese and potassium. These are good for heart health, blood pressure, aid digestion, help beat gastrointestinal issues and also gives you energy.
So a strawberry banana smoothie based on both these fruits will give you the best health benefits if you take it regularly. There are many blogs or websites providing various recipes, but we’ve consolidated them here into one that’s easy and nutritious for you.
(1) Blend 2 cups of fresh strawberries with 1 – 2 fresh bananas, 1/2 cup of milk, a bit of vanilla, ice and some honey.
(2) Add in some Greek yogurt if you want. If you don’t have milk, you can substitute it with orange juice or some other fruit juices.
(3) You can also add in some chia seeds, Chinese wolfberries, some vegetables, protein powders or wheat germ.
(4) Blend all the ingredients together and serve at once. If the smoothie is too thick, add more milk. If it’s too thin, add more fruits and/or ice.
